As I have mentioned, Erica has been our Intern this past fall. She has done a great job and we are sad to see her go. Before her exit, I asked Erica explain the difference between two of the larger social networks: Facebook and Myspace. Since she is all of 21 and knows all about this stuff, she is more of an expert here than I. Below is her advice.
I’m sure you have all heard of Facebook and Myspace. If you don’t know much about them, you probably don’t think there is much of a difference between the two since they both serve as social networks. Here is how the two compare:
Myspace has been around longer; Facebook is new and rapidly growing.
Facebook is very organized and easy to use; Myspace takes some work and time.
Myspace pages are unprofessional because of the ability to choose your own background; Facebook users all have the same white background.
As of now, Myspace has more customization to your own page; Facebook doesn’t have as many yet, but they are getting there.
Myspace is mostly set up in all HTML, so you have to know your stuff; Facebook is not and very easy to add your own content without knowing the HTML codes.
Both networks allow you to add your own friends, but Facebook users generally add people who they know; Myspace users add people they don’t know (creepy!).
Facebook is good at letting you know when a friend updates their profile; Myspace users have to go and check the profile and see if you notice something different.
With Facebook, you can join a network of your company; Myspace doesn’t have this because it is geared more toward the younger generation.
When searching for someone, it is very easy to find them on Facebook, but with Myspace you have to search through hundreds of things to find what you are looking for.
Myspace has a lot of spam messages while Facebook doesn’t.
If you’re in to music or movies- Myspace is the route to go because bands and famous people have pages to promote themselves.
Facebook has more security features than Myspace.
Facebook now allows businesses to have a company page; just sign up for an account.
